Growing up, I’ve always been sure about one thing in my life : moving to London to study Art and Design. However I’ve never been entirely sure about what kind of job I would’ve seen myself in. That’s the reason why I’ve decided to take this DPS year which, I think, is the perfect opportunity at the perfect timing. My second year at lcc was a year of experimentations and challenges. I’ve really started to use the facilities and to learn new skills. When the Covid-19 outbreak happened, it cut off all of the hard work and motivation I was starting to put in my projects. As I got home, I learned how to adapt and to use what I had, in order to create a project I was satisfied with. It was a new way of challenging myself. From this lockdown experience, I realised we can create and design things with the minimum, as long as the inspiration and motivation are here. The lockdown had one and only positive aspect on my work : I went from not knowing what to do, to knowing what I want to focus on in Graphic Design. I really enjoyed working on my Self Initiated project. This project answered all the questions I could have about my future. I managed to put what I like the most about Graphic Design together in one project. This vinyl cover is a mix of packaging design and homemade printing. Because of this project, I realised that a physical printed outcome is very important to me. I like working digitally but the different ways of printing are definitely something I’m interested in. Following this idea of being in charge of designing and printing, I’ve decided to challenge myself and to start a small business selling stickers that would be used onto packaging or just as basic stickers. This brand new challenge will be my own personal project while applying and working for agencies. Lockdown taught me I can be very motivated and independent when it comes to something I enjoy doing or want to share with people. By building this small stickers business, I will learn about being my own boss, about setting up deadlines and prices and about being in charge of everything from designing to printing, and this is what I am passionate about. For my future experience as a DPS student, I still expect to learn new skills and to meet more people in London. I’m currently looking at agencies focusing on Graphic Design, packaging design, branding and printing in London as I’m not planning to go abroad.
